Homeward bound

They say 24 hours is a long time in politics.

Well it’s been some 24 hours for me in Ward 8 at the Western.

I put it down to the many inspirational and hilarious quotes many of you sent me last night.

But from yesterday’s prognosis of being in here for possibly 10 days, I’ve just just this minute finished packing my bag and will be heading home this afternoon.

My consultant paid me a positive visit this morning and said she was very happy with the results of my CT scan, my more recent blood tests, and the way I’d reacted to my chemo.

So much so that I can head back to the family today and just need to pop in as an out-patient on each of the next three days to get my intravenous steroids.

And double good news is that they’ll book me in for my next session on the Monday before Christmas meaning I should – assuming I don’t react too badly – be home in time to see the kids open their presents on Christmas morning.

I’m not getting carried away. She hasn’t told me they’ve found a miracle cure, but in this game you grab every positive with both hands and don’t let go.

One on my key blood markers suggests that the cancer’s progression is less aggressive than it might have been and should respond better to treatment.

And apart from not getting to sleep until 4am and feeling ever so slightly nauseous, I otherwise feel fit as a fiddle!

I’m told that’s partly due to a steroid high and that I’ll crash down soon. But I’ll have my own bed to crash in to.

Can’t wait to get home and see the kids. Missing them like hell.
